TOCANDO NUESTRA CANCIÓN / THEY’RE PLAYING OUR SONG (New Spanish Cast Recording), directed and produced by global superstar Antonio Banderas, narrates the sweet irony and tender zaniness between an established composer and an aspiring lyricist. With a score by Marvin Hamlisch and Carole Bayer Sager and starring Spain’s Miquel Fernández and María Adamuz, this romantic comedy navigates an unusual love story between collaborators as romance blossoms, conflict rears its head and comedic sparks fly.

ANTONIO BANDERAS has been one of the most outstanding international actors of his generation. He has received critical acclaim for his roles in film, television and theatre, as well as for his work behind the camera as a director.

He has worked with some of the best directors and actors in Hollywood: Robert Rodriguez’s Desperado opposite Salma Hayek and the sequel Once Upon a Time in Mexico, opposite Johnny Depp; Original Sin with Angelina Jolie; Alan Parker’s Evita opposite Madonna (for which he received his first Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor); The Mask of Zorro, by Martin Campbell, opposite Catherine Zeta-Jones (second Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor), and the sequel The Legend of Zorro; Neil Jordan’s Interview with the Vampire with Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt; Jonathan Demme’s Philadelphia alongside Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington; Bille August’s House of the Spirits with Meryl Streep and Glenn Close; and Femme Fatale by Brian de Palma. He was nominated for his third Golden Globe Award for Best Actor for his performance as the infamous Pancho Villa on HBO’s “And Starring Pancho Villa as Himself” in 2003. In 2005 he was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

In 2003, he was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical for Nine, his Broadway debut, a Roundabout Theatre Company production inspired by Fellini’s 8 1/2, and which garnered him a Drama Desk Award for Best Actor, as well as Outer Critics Circle, Drama League and Theatre World Awards.

He has also starred in “Genius: Picasso” (2018), the National Geographic limited series for which he received Primetime Emmy, Golden Globe, Critic’s Choice and SAG Award nominations for Best Actor in a Limited Series. He recently won the Best Actor Award at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival for his compelling performance as Salvador Mallo in Pedro Almodóvar’s autobiographical drama Pain and Glory, his eighth film with Almodóvar and one that earned him rave reviews.

In 2019, he promoted the Teatro del Soho CaixaBank project in his hometown, Malaga. The theatre opened with the musical A Chorus Line, its first production with John Breglio and Banderas himself as actor, co-director and producer of the show which was a great success with audiences and critics alike.

In 2020 he created the Teatro Soho Televisión division for audiovisual projects and presented and directed the music program Escena en Blanco & Negro for Amazon Prime Video and the 35th edition of the Goya Awards for the Spanish Film Academy. He produced, directed and starred as Robert in Company, which first played at Teatro del Soho CaixaBank in 2021 and was followed in 2022 by a six-week run at Teatre Apolo in Barcelona and touring production in Madrid at the UMusic Hotel-Teatro Albéniz. Company won the prestigious Max Award for Best Musical Show in 2022 and received 3 Talía Awards, including Best Musical Theatre Actor for Antonio Banderas, bestowed by the Spanish Academy of Performing Arts. Banderas has been distinguished with the 2023 President’s Award for his contribution to cultural and musical heritage at the 24th edition of the Latin Grammys. He directed two more musicals in 2024: the romantic comedy They’re Playing Our Song (Tocando nuestra canción) and Gypsy, which won four Talía Awards, including Best Production. Recently he directed Godspell based on Emilio Aragón´s version, which first played at Teatro del Soho CaixaBank in 2025 and was followed in 2026 with a run at Gran Teatro Pavón in Madrid.

MARVIN HAMLISCH (1944-2012) is one of America’s most decorated composers and conductors. Known for his work in both film and theatre, Hamlisch won virtually every major award that exists: three Oscars, four GRAMMYs, four Emmys, a Tony, three Golden Globe Awards and the Pulitzer Prize (won by A Chorus Line). He is one of only two people to have ever achieved a “PEGOT.” Over his four-decade-long career, Hamlisch composed more than 40 prolific film scores, including his Oscar-winning score and song for The Way We Were; his adaptation of Scott Joplin’s ragtime music for The Sting, for which he received a third Oscar; as well as the original compositions for Sophie’s Choice, Ordinary People and Ice Castles. On Broadway, he composed A Chorus Line, They’re Playing Our Song, The Goodbye Girl and Sweet Smell of Success. Hamlisch also held the position of principal pops conductor for many national philharmonic orchestras, including The National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, D.C.

TEATRO DEL SOHO CAIXABANK is a centre for production, training and promotion of the performing arts that was born in Malaga from a private initiative. It is not subject to public funding of any kind and is a wholly non-profit-making enterprise. It is a unique and exclusive cultural project, not only in the context of Spain but also in Europe, which was created and promoted by the actor, director and producer Antonio Banderas. Since its official opening in 2019, Teatro del Soho CaixaBank has produced the musicals A Chorus Line, Company, They´re playing our song (Tocando nuestra canción), Gypsy, Godspell and playwright John Godber’s comedy On the piste (En la Pista).
